Iceland - the Global Leader

Aquanor brand Arctic Charr are from Iceland, the global leader in charr production.  In its natural habitat in Iceland, wild arctic charr hatch in freshwater and, like salmon, head downstream to the sea.  However unlike salmon, charr do not spend most of their adult life in the open ocean.  Instead they prefer the brackish water found at the mouth of rivers.

Truly Unique Saltwater Environment

Prior to 1990, Arctic Charr was virtually unknown to U.S. consumers.  Aquanor Marketing together with the foremost producers of Arctic Charr in Iceland created a partnership-marketing program to introduce, develop and promote Arctic Charr in the U.S. market.

Aquanor Icelandic Arctic Charr, a unique strain of saltwater charr, are especially environmentally sensitive, requiring specific densities and natural, unspoiled conditions that match the purity of their natural Icelandic atmosphere.  Sustainably raised in land-based closed system tanks, these charr grow in a continuously sand filtered system of pure Icelandic seawater, natural spring water, and geothermal water to maintain a perfect temperature - a saltwater environment that is unique.  

And while there may occasionally be the less expensive freshwater charr available in the market, buyers agree that Aquanor Fresh Farm-Raised Arctic Charr from Iceland is clearly superior to all other charr in appearance, texture and most importantly, taste!

Unmatched Quality

Aquanor Arctic Charr grow slowly, feeding on natural organic ingredients, which assures a premium product.  No antibiotics or chemicals are ever used in the hatcheries or grow out facilities.  When the charr are ready for market they weigh an average of 3 lbs. Immediately after harvesting, they are packed with wet ice in catch-weight 50 lb. cartons and flown in fresh several times per week.

We do not offer you an industry producing thousands of tons - that will never be.  We do offer a unique, wild quality where no two fish look exactly the same and the taste and firm texture are just as nature itself intended them to be.
